IOANA MARINESCU - OUTSTANDING COACH OF THE YEAR & CANADA GAMES COACH
Ioana was born and raised in Bucharest, Romania.
She was a member of the Romanian national diving team for 10 years from 1984 to 1994, during which time she competed at many international competitions, including the World Championships. The pinnacle of her diving career, however, was reaching the finals in the 10 Metre tower event at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, Spain.
After coaching for a couple of years in Romania, Ioana moved to North America in 1995. Since that time her love of diving has lead her to a number of interesting opportunities – assistant diving coach at Princeton University; she founded the Olympia Diving Club in Windsor, Ontario; and, finally, she took over as the head coach of the Forest City Diving Club in September, 2003.
In just 5 short years, Ioana has made the Forest City Diving Club into an amazing story of success having coached a number of athletes to provincial, national and even international championships.
